In the late 1920's,The Fleagle Gang were
bank robbers, including the Schmidt and Koester Bank in Marysville. Their
hideout west of Hanover became known known as Robbers
Roost.
Dale Hiesterman, a member of the Washington County
Historical Society became intrigued with stories of the gang. He did
extensive research and on Friday, June 17th will present a
program at the Kloppenberg Center about the gang's
activites. An old newspaper states they purchased a car from Poells
Garage in Hanover. Additional information was found to trace a get-away
route and determine the location of Robbers
Roost.
The program begins at 11:15 a.m. and is free to the
public. If you plan to stay for the noon meal, call the Kloppenberg Center
in Hanover (785-337-2521) by 2:00 p.m. the day before, or Elvira at 337-2735
by 8:00 a.m. on Friday 16th.
