Its tough enough to wear pink night at the Oregon Trail Rodeo in Hastings on September 4th. Wear Pink to the rodeo and funds will be donated for breast cancer treatment to the Morrison Cancer Center at the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.

St. Andrew’s Parish in Tecumseh will host its 6th annual Auction and Dinner on Saturday, September 11th at the Parish Hall. The Nebraska Country Showdown and BBQ competition will be held on Saturday September 11, 2010 at Red 9 in Lincoln, Ne from 3-8 pm. This Event will consist of NEBRASKA'S BEST COUNTRY SINGER AND NEBRASKA'S BEST COUNTRY BBQ. There will be special guest appearances and Live performances. Alzheimer’s Memory Walk Set for Sept. 12

Area residents will have a chance to support the Alzheimer’s Association with a Memory Walk on Sunday, Sept. 12. The walk will be held at the Fairbury City Park, with registration beginning at 1:30 p.m. The walk will begin at 2 p.m.

        An estimated 386 residents of Jefferson County and 44,000 residents of the state of Nebraska suffer from Alzheimer’s Disease. The Alzheimer’s Association is available to provide respite care funding, education and support groups, in addition to working toward new treatments through research.

Each participant who raises $50 dollars or more will receive a Memory Walk t-shirt. Those who raise $300 or more will be able to select a prize.

        The money raised by the Memory Walk will go to national research, education materials, Respite care, Operation Safe Return, and other programs of the Alzheimer’s Association.

Parkinson’s Support Group to Meet

        The Parkinson’s Support Group will meet on Monday, Sept. 13, at Jefferson Community Health Center. The meeting will be held at 10 a.m. in the Solarium Conference Room. Please note the change in the regular meeting date because of the Labor Day holiday.

        The program will be a video on “Diet and Nutrition Management in Parkinson’s Disease.”

        The Parkinson’s Support Group typically meets on the first Monday of each month at JCHC. The group is designed to provide an opportunity for area residents to share their experiences with Parkinson’s disease.

Sept. 13

Area senior citizens ages 60 and over are invited to join in and “Be Active Your Way” at an event set for Wednesday, Sept. 15 in the Fairbury City Park. This active aging event is meant to encourage seniors to stay healthy and keep moving.

            The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Fairbury Community Building. Check-in begins at 9:30 a.m. under the tent.

        The day’s schedule includes a demonstration of Square Dancing, listening or dancing to Polka Music, a presentation on ways to “Be Active Your Way” by Helmink; and a variety of fun and active stations. The day will close at 1 p.m. after lunch in the Senior Center and a wrap up discussion.

        Reservations for lunch are REQUIRED by Monday, Sept. 13, by calling 729-5258 (Fairbury Senior Center.) A $3 donation is requested for lunch, payable to the Fairbury Senior Center the day of the event.

        The event is co-sponsored by Jefferson Community Health Center, Gardenside long-term care, Cedarwood assisted living, the Bob and Wauneta Burkley Wellness Center, Heritage Care Center, and the Fairbury Senior Center. Funding is provided by HoriSun Hospice.
